Athletics Press Release

Press release for the Winter 2011 drop of Athletics’ sophomore post-rock album, “Who You Are Is Not Enough.”

The long awaited second full-length album from Oneonta native, post-rock band Athletics is expected to release at the end of this month, the band states. Over the past summer and fall, Athletics has been working hard on the completion of this album entitled, “Who You Are Is Not Enough.” The album is in the final stages of being mixed and mastered. The album was tracked by Kevin Dye (Gates, Moving Mountains) and is now being mixed by Gregory Dunn, guitarist and vocalist for Moving Mountains.

The band describes the new album as, “one long thirty-five minute song.” “Who You Are Is Not Enough” is broken into five movements, all in the same key and with the same tempo, with a lot of motifs- all bout a common theme. “It’s more like an orchestral piece than your standard rock album.” explains guitarist, Jimmy Boyce.

Athletics hopes to go above and beyond the success of their first album, “Why Aren’t I Home?” It sold over 500 hard and on-line copies, and gained positive attention from publications such as AlterThePress.com, AbsolutePunk, and MTV. Songs off of “Why Aren’t I Home?” were featured in media such as Teen Mom 2, Vans Showdown 20120, and the Morgan Spurlock documentary “Floating: The Nathan Gocke Story.”

“Who You Are Is Not Enough” will include five tracks titled “Movement 1-5.” Vocalist Garrett Yeager wrote the entire foundation for the album over the course of summer 2011. Athletics is currently working on a tour for this winter, following the release of their new album.
